Coalition member, Tearfund latest report based on a research study, Men, Faith and Masculinities will be launched during the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict during 10-13th June.

The baseline study was carried out in partnership with the Anglican Church in Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo between August 2013 and February 2014.

Positive Masculinities Church training manual

Coalition members, the World Council of Reformed Churches  and the World Council of Churches have produced a church manual:

‘Created in God’s Image: from hegemony to partnership’

The manual is a gender training manual, promoting positive masculinities calling men to work in partnership with women.

A study analysing the relationship between sexual and gender based violence and hegemonic masculinities in the conflict zone of North Kivu province in the Eastern DRC by Desiree Lwambo.

Focusing on the discrepancies between dominant ideals of masculinity and the actual realities of men’s lives.

1/3 Congolese men admit committing SV

A study was carried out by the South African-based Sonke Gender Justice Network and the Brazilian non-government organisation Promundo in and near Goma in Congo’s North Kivu province. A total of 708 men and 754 women aged between 18 and 59 took part in individual interviews and focus group discussions in June this year.

More than one in three men surveyed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo‘s war-torn east admits committing sexual assault, and three in four believe that a woman who “does not dress decently is asking to be raped”,researchers have found.
